Exempel på hur man kan använda CHOANA i en mening
- Choanal atresia is a congenital disorder where the back of the nasal passage (choana) is blocked, usually by abnormal bony or soft tissue (membranous) due to failed hole development of the nasal fossae during prenatal development.
- Eusthenopteron, like other tetrapodomorph fishes, had internal nostrils (or a choana), one of the defining traits of tetrapodomorphs, including tetrapods.
- In later tetrapodomorphs, including tetrapods, the excurrent nostril is positioned inside the mouth, where it is known as the choana.
- The posterolateral margin of the choana has a smooth area, which is evidence of a loose and ligamentous contact between the maxilla and premaxilla.
- The debate was further complicated by the fact that lungfishes, another group of sarcopterygian fish, also possess a choana with a different form to that of tetrapodomorphs.
- On Long's 1967 expedition to Gogo the first relatively complete skull of Gogonasus was found by Chris Nelson and after being prepared by Sheila Mahala Andrews solved a scientific controversy by showing that the inner large fangs of the coronoid bones did not insert into the choana of the palate (Long 1988) as had been suggested by Rosen et al.
- The lower canine rests in the anterior section of the choana, much like gorgonopsians, therocephalians, and burnetiamorphs.
- Schoch & Milner (2014) provide nine characters in their diagnosis of Acheloma: (1) toothed crest on the vomer extending medial to the internal naris; (2) constricted otic notch with nearly horizontal ventral margin; (3) preorbital region twice as long as the skull table; (4) naris twice as long as the orbit; (5) posterior skull table wide and posterolaterally expanded; (6) skull margin widens at level of and posterior to orbit; (7) palatine and ectopterygoid with tall fangs; (8) large intervomerine fenestra; and (9) choana elongate and curved with a Y-shaped contour.
- Many of other cochleosaurids from the same time period have an elongated vomer and wide and elongate choana.
- The vomer also bears two vomerine rows: a transversal denticle row and a longitudinal denticle row that runs along the inner margin of the choana.
- The palatal tooth row were reduced with little teeth on the vomers (medial to the choana) and on the posterior ends of the ectopterygoids.
- Parts of the pterygoid bones make up the rostral margin of the choana and thus separate it from the palatines, a feature also seen in the more advanced neosuchian suborder Eusuchia.
- In members of Amphicotylus, the palatines are completely separated from one another by the choana while in Goniopholis the palatines make broad contact prior to the choana.
- Penghusuchus has several diagnostic characters, including: anterior process of jugal, prefrontal and lacrimal is extending as the same level; anterior process of frontal truncated and attach with nasals in W-shaped; choana is triangular with a sharp anterior angle, and its lateral borders and floor of nasopharyngeal duct form Y-shaped ridge-like prominence on ventral surface of pterygoid; presence of five maxillary teeth within the range of the suborbital fenestra; 7th maxillary tooth is the largest in the first wave of maxillary teeth and maxilla is bulges; angular with a mid-dorsal process excluding surangular from posterodorsal border of external mandibular fenestra.
- The premaxilla has an edentulous crest lateral to the choana; the premaxillary teeth are of different sizes, the jugal has a noticeably long and narrow anterior process; the postparietals and tabulars are enlarged and form facets for connection with the anteriormost osteoderm.
- Anakamacops is most similar to Kamacops, sharing features such as a choana widely separated from the interpterygoid vacuities and extensive exostosis ornamenting the skull roof.
- Acanthostomatops is diagnosed by six features: (1) lacrimal and prefrontal projecting into orbital; (2) quadratojugal with two lateral spikes; (3) choana laterally constricted by palatal tusk sockets; (4) small, rectangular interclavicle; (5) large and robust humerus present in larval stages; (6) 21-22 presacral vertebrae positions.
- They have a deeply incised otic notch, postparietal bones that enter the pineal opening, regular circular pits in the skull, and a row of palatal teeth from the interpterygoid vacuity to the edge of the choana.
- Other autapomorphic features of this taxon are a parachoanal tooth row that extends far posterior to the choana and occipital condyles which are set close to the midline.
