Kimblesworth was formerly an extra-parochial tract, from 1858 Kimblesworth was a civil parish in its own right, on 1 April 1937 the parish was abolished and became part of "Kimblesworth & Plawsworth", Sacriston and Witton Gilbert.
Plawsworth was formerly a township in the parish of Chester-le-Street, from 1866 Plawsworth was a civil parish in its own right, on 1 April 1986 the parish was abolished added to the parish of "Kimblesworth & Plawsworth".
In addition to Holmside, the family held lands at Bradley, Mordon, Greatham, Kimblesworth and Potterhouse, all in County Durham.
