  • It was created as a new town after World War II in 1948, to accommodate the London population overspill from the conglomeration of four small villages, namely Pitsea, Laindon, Basildon (the most central of the four) and Vange.

  • After the Second World War, the new town of Basildon was created, encompassing the plotlands here and in the surrounding areas of Laindon and Pitsea.
  • In the 2017 local elections, the BNP ran seven candidates; five in Essex (two in Pitsea, one in Halstead, one in Maldon and one in Heybridge & Tollesbury), one in Hampshire (Hayling Island) and one in Lincolnshire (Louth South).
  • The Conservatives took Laindon Park, but narrowly failed to take the targeted wards of Pitsea North West and Vange from Labour, by 19 and 68 votes respectively.
